Community Guidelines for Autism Ottawa Social
Welcome to Autism Ottawa Social, a community created to help autistic adults build meaningful friendships, discover local activities, and enjoy a welcoming environment where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. Our goal is to provide a safe, inclusive, and supportive space where members can connect both online and through in-person social events.
These Community Guidelines explain the expectations for all members. By participating in our community, you agree to follow these guidelines and help create a positive experience for everyone.
Be Respectful
Create a Safe and Welcoming Community
Many members join Autism Ottawa Social because they are looking for friendship in a comfortable, accepting environment. Our community guidelines incorporate a welcoming environment.
Help others feel welcome by:
- Greeting new members.
- Including others in conversations.
- Being patient with different communication styles.
- Respecting personal boundaries.
- Encouraging positive interactions.
Small acts of kindness can make a significant difference.
No Harassment or Bullying
Harassment of any kind is prohibited.
This includes:
- Personal attacks
- Name-calling
- Threats
- Hate speech
- Discrimination
- Bullying
- Deliberately provoking other members
- Repeated unwanted contact
- Stalking or intimidation
Members who engage in abusive behavior may receive warnings, temporary suspensions, or permanent removal from the community.
Be Inclusive
Autism Ottawa Social welcomes autistic adults from all backgrounds.
Discrimination based on race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, or any other protected characteristic will not be tolerated.
Everyone deserves to feel respected and included.
Protect Your Privacy and the Privacy of Our Members
Keep Discussions Appropriate
Our community is intended for positive conversations, social interaction, and peer support. We encourage you to read our privacy policy to understand our privacy architecture.

- Everyday life
- Please avoid posting content that is excessively graphic, sexually explicit, violent, or otherwise inappropriate for a welcoming community.
No Hate Speech
Content that promotes hatred, violence, or discrimination toward individuals or groups is not permitted.
This includes
- Racist remarks
- Homophobic comments
- Transphobic comments
- Ableist language
- Religious intolerance
- Extremist content
Respectful conversations are welcome. Hate speech is not.

Only share content that you own or have permission to use.
Do not upload copyrighted material without authorization, including:

Always credit creators whenever appropriate.
Support Rather Than Diagnose
Members often share personal experiences involving autism, anxiety, ADHD, depression, or other health topics.
While peer support is encouraged, please avoid:
- Diagnosing others
- Giving medical advice
- Recommending unsafe treatments
- Discouraging professional healthcare
When appropriate, encourage members to seek guidance from qualified professionals.
Respect Event Etiquette
Help Keep the Community Positive
If you encounter inappropriate behavior, please report it rather than responding publicly.
Our moderation team reviews reports fairly and confidentially whenever possible.
Reporting helps keep Autism Ottawa Social welcoming for everyone.
Moderators Decisions
To maintain a positive environment, moderators may:
- Remove content
- Edit inappropriate posts
- Lock discussions
- Issue warnings
- Temporarily suspend accounts
- Permanently remove members who repeatedly violate these guidelines
Moderation decisions are made with the goal of protecting the community as a whole.
